Job Summary:
The Certified Medical Assistant will provide support to the clinical providers by assisting with various patient care activities. This includes a combination of administrative and clinical practice responsibilities. Prepares patients for their visit; examination procedure and/or treatment in accordance with established procedures; obtain vital signs as necessary; prepare appropriate paperwork for procedures, laboratory work, tests, or referrals for provider signature and comment; assist providers and nurses in urgent and emergency clinical situations, including obtaining and operating medical equipment in accordance with established protocols and standards., as well as other tasks assigned by the Nurse Manager.
Qualifications:
Certification & Education:Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through a nationally recognized certifying body (e.g., AAMA, AMT).High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program preferred.Current CPR certification
Experience:Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a medical office or clinic setting, preferably in an FQHC or community health environment.Experience working with underserved populations is a plus.
Skills:Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR/EMR) systems. (Centricity EMR software preferred).Proficiency with Microsoft office / 365Familiarity with medical terminology, clinical procedures, and office software (e.g., Microsoft Office).Knowledge of medical billing, coding, and insurance verification processes.Preferred two years of medical office experienceStrong interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on patient care and community engagement.Compassionate, patient-focused, and culturally sensitive.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.Ability to work collaboratively with diverse healthcare teams and patients.Commitment to providing healthcare services at the top of your licensureStrong values focused on integrityBilingual (Spanish/English) preferred, but not required
Patient Support:
Greet and escort patients to exam rooms, ensuring comfort and confidentiality. Record and update patient medical histories, vital signs, and relevant data into the EMR system. Assist providers with patient exams, procedures, and treatments. Administer medications, injections, and vaccines as prescribed by the physician. Collect and process laboratory requests, prepare specimens for external lab processing as needed. Sterilize medical instruments and equipment, and maintain an orderly, safe clinical environment.
Patient Education:Educate patients about their conditions, prescribed treatments, medications, and health management.Provide instructions for post-procedure or post-appointment care and follow-up.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Medical Records and Documentation:Accurately document patient information in the EMR system, ensuring all medical records are complete and up to date.Assist with the preparation of patient charts and forms, ensuring all necessary documents are available for patient visits.
Scheduling and Coordination:
Schedule patient appointments, follow-ups, and referrals, ensuring that all necessary information is provided to both the patient and the healthcare provider.
Coordinate patient referrals to specialists or other services as needed.
Insurance and Billing Support:
Assist with verifying patient insurance eligibility, updating insurance information, and collecting co-pays. Help prepare and submit billing and coding information for insurance claims.
Patient Flow:
Maintain smooth patient flow by ensuring timely communication between patients, providers, and other healthcare staff. Chart preparation for upcoming visits Ensure that all patient information is accurately entered, reducing delays and maximizing efficiency while maintaining patient confidentiality.
Team Collaboration:Collaborate with other healthcare team members, including physicians, nurses, and social workers, to provide comprehensive care to our patients.Support FQHCs mission to provide accessible, patient-centered care to underserved populations.
