POSITION SUMMARY:
The Applications Developer III will serve as the technical expert on complex applications development work assignments and problems, typically for the entire life cycle of an application to include analysis, coding, testing, and documentation. The Applications Developer III applies significant professional experience and training in information technology and computer programming to the analysis, design, modification, and maintenance of application programs, integrated systems, and/or software solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop software interfaces between existing enterprise applications and other small utility applications to optimize business and academic processes
Develop programming code and software modifications using appropriate languages and tools to provide responsive and innovative solutions, and new functionality in enterprisewide and/or complex specialized systems.
Research, design, and develop prototypes using USF-specific selected products and technologies to demonstrate utility, productivity enhancements, and cost savings.
Write documentation to provide user support for programs and for production/operating procedures.
Research, analyze and evaluate current technical trends, emerging technologies and standards, new software functionality, and alternative software solutions to determine applicability and viability at USF.
Design integrated solutions which may include applications, databases, networks, and related systems
Analyze user system and application needs, determine and evaluate potential solutions, develop system specifications and requirements, and design application programs to meet the requirements.
Analyze data
Design database systems and programs.
Structure, implement, and maintain database systems. Establish policies, standards and procedures to ensure useful and readily accessible data.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS or other field involving software and analytical training, and four years of IT related work experience, OR a Bachelor's degree with no specific required field and five years of IT related work experience, OR a Master's degree and three years of IT related work experience, OR a combination of eight years of IT related work experience and validated training.
PREFERRED:
Expert level knowledge with at least one popular development language such as Python, C, or C++
Familiarity with developing in Linux-based environments.
Expertise with modern source code control systems required (e.g. git/github or similar).
Understanding of secure coding techniques required.
Able to develop high-quality efficient algorithms and programs.
Familiarity with using AI to improve code production preferred.
Familiarity with REST interfaces and popular data representations such as JSON and XML.
Experienced with participating in (and able to implement) source code review process within new college.
