Environmental Scientist (Finance)
Tetra Tech's Santa Barbara, CA office is seeking a Junior level scientist with career aspirations. This role will provide project support for environmental projects for the Department of Defense environmental restoration program, as well as other federal and stage clients. This role will involve providing field support for various types of investigations and assist staff in developing and supporting preparation of technical planning and reporting documents. Tetra Tech support of this role will also involve mentoring and training for candidates to develop and diversify areas expertise.

Responsibilities:
Education & Experience: Successful candidate must have a college degree in geology, geography, environmental science, or similar science based discipline. Entry level experience, 0 to 2 years is expected for this position.
Qualifications & Requirements:

• Be detail-oriented and bring attention to details during the collection of field data and field other documentation.
• Be proficient in verbal and written communication skills
• Conduct fieldwork, including site assessments, sampling, and data collection.
• Be willing and capable of operating and maintaining portable field equipment, tools, and meters required for the collection of field data.
• Support senior staff and project managers with the preparation of technical documents and data management.

Physical Demands: The successful candidate must be able to perform physically demanding tasks (e.g., groundwater and soil sampling) that may include lifting equipment (up to ~50 pounds), operating hand tools, and driving large vehicles (e.g., full-size pickup trucks). Candidate must be able to perform these types of tasks in austere environments (e.g., desert heat, rain, cold weather).
Work Environment: Field work assignments will be throughout California and the western U.S., and may include assignments anywhere in the U.S. International work is possible but will not be a significant percent of time. Travel to field assignment locations is required and individual assignments will typically last up to one week but may be as much as a month or more. Tetra Tech offers a hybrid work environment which involves performing office work assignments from the Santa Barbara, CA office location and/or from a home office.
Language & Communication Skills: Strong oral communication skills are mandatory to clearly communicate with team members to provide and receive direction and feedback. Proficient with English language and ability to read, interpret, and understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form is required.
Mathematical Skills: Undergraduate level classes in mathmatics.
Other Skills: Be able to operate Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, Teams), Adobe Acrobat, Internet Browsers, and similar. GIS experience is preferred but not required.
