Driver Fleet Manager, Roanoke (Project Management)
Daily coordination of regional and nationwide drivers ensuring accuracy, respect and excellent service.
Resolve scheduling issues while maintaining and leading industry on-time service performance.
Decision-making and accountability of driver performance.
Coordination of back haul planning for optimal driver utilization.
Reporting Structure
The Fleet Manager will report directly to the Freight Supervisor. This individual is also expected to interface with other management, including the leaders of the different business divisions.
Essential Functions & Major Accountabilities
Responsible for clear communication of individual dispatches to include weekend dispatches and dispatches from planners.
Utilize TMW to input and dispatch freight shipments.
Answer requests and monitor email in a timely manner in order to provide superior service.
Provide all drivers with pertinent information regarding freight shipments.
Ensure drivers are optimally utilized at all times; develop strong working relationships with drivers, understand their individual strengths, weaknesses, and motivators.
Accomplish work requirements by scheduling and managing loads tendered by customers.
Meet work standards by following productivity, quality, and customer service standards; resolving operational problems; and identifying process improvements.
Coach and counsel drivers and make decisions relative to performance standards.
Provides performance feedback to drivers while also keeping management informed.
Dispatch and monitor all drivers according to customer requests, in compliance with Hours of Service (HOS), DOT regulations, company policies, and procedures.
Communicate with brokers as needed, directly, through the driver, or by use of technology (tracking tools) while we are transporting their goods within our system.
Responsible for keeping records and monitoring driver logs daily for errors and violations.
Requirements - Knowledge, Skills & Accountabilities
Thorough knowledge of DOT regulations, including hours of service.
Understand HOS, the effects on maximizing driver efficiency within the total HOS.
Understand how the HOS affects the dispatched loads and the delivery times of those loads.
Effective listening and strong communication skills, ensuring effective interaction with drivers, customers, and company colleagues.
Efficient data entry skills, ensuring record accuracy and excellent organizational skills.
Must be an analytical minded individual with attention to detail.
Ability to multitask, support projects, and meet deadlines while keeping a solution-focused mindset.
Must demonstrate a sense of urgency and ownership to drive projects to completion.
Must be a positive minded individual with problem solving ability, as well as display confidence when making recommendations for improvement.
Excellent professional communication and demeanor required, including confidentiality measures.
Education/Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent, degree preferred.
Must have a minimum of 1-2 years prior dispatching experience within the trucking industry including pricing, scheduling, routing, load board experience, filling backhauls and load planning.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow through skills.
Ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, and results-oriented environment, and be flexible/adaptable to change.
Excellent computer skills are essential for success in this role. Must have advanced knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office products.
