ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The College of Public Health (COPH) is part of USF Health, which includes t h e core c o lle g es of Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, and Phar m acy, and the schools of Bio m e dical Sciences and Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Sciences. The College of Public Health was founded in 1984 as the first college of public health in Florida. POSITION SUMMARY:
The incumbent of this position serves as a senior-level faculty member in global vector-born infectious disease research and education. As a ranked professorial faculty position at USF, the incumbent will have teaching, research, scholarship and service responsibilities. In addition, the incumbent will be expected to provide external competitive funding to cover at least 50% of annual salary and benefits beginning their fourth year of employment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructional Duties: 20% FTE
Teach graduate level courses in the area of global infectious diseases, molecular parasitology, medical entomology, disease ecology and/or vector biology. Advise graduate students; chair and serve on doctoral student committees. If interests and time allow, contribute to undergraduate education and undergraduate research.
Research/Scholarship Duties: 70% FTE
Establish a research program in the area of global infectious diseases, molecular parasitology, medical entomology, disease ecology and/or vector biology; secure competitive external funding for research activities that covers at least 50% of annual salary plus benefits; collaborate with other faculty in research activities; publish scholarly papers in the peer reviewed literature and present at national/international conferences. Train doctoral students and post-doctoral fellows. Work to support a broad-based interdisciplinary public health research program.
Service Duties: 10% FTE
Engage in service activities at the university, professional and community levels, including serving on faculty governance committees, special work groups, and other university service roles; participate at a national level in professional organizations and activities; contribute to community service using professional expertise.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
The creation, dissemination and translation of knowledge through collaborative research; teaching and advising graduate students; and active engagement in professional and community service.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
An earned doctorate in public health, biology, medicine, or a related field.
A minimum of two years of continuous and productive accomplishment as an Associate Professor in an accredited University or the equivalent in a Government, Military or related setting
A national and/or international record of excellence in independent and/or collaborative research and creative scholarly work in the area of global infectious diseases, molecular parasitology, medical entomology, disease ecology and/or vector biology, supported by substantial and sustained publications.
Established record of competitive funding to include a current funded research program.
A record of excellence in teaching, including a clearly defined teaching philosophy and a record of participation on and as major professor for thesis and/or dissertation committees for master's and doctoral candidates or equivalent trainees.
A record of substantive contribution of service to their University or organization and to the field, profession, and community.
Compelling evidence of significant achievement among peers in one's discipline or field at the national or international level.
A record of collegiality in their University or organization.
PREFERRED:
Current funding from extramural sources sufficient to cover 40% of annual salary and benefits.
Established record in training doctoral students and post-doctoral fellows.
On-line and classroom teaching experience at the graduate level in one or more areas of global infectious diseases, molecular parasitology, medical entomology, disease ecology and/or vector biology.
Record of innovative teaching in an academic and/or practice environment.
Leadership in professional and scientific organizations.
Demonstrated commitment to laboratory, field, and or bioanalytic research directly pertinent to local and global health.
Demonstrated ability to work with multiple researchers in an interdisciplinary environment.
