The Health Federation of Philadelphia (HFP) is offering an exceptional opportunity through an internship in our Population Health Department. Interns may work up to 37.5 hour a week and will be exposed to the many ways in which HFP seeks to serve and support healthcare. Interns will be assigned a mentor, and will work on an HFP project in his/her assigned area.
Background:
The Population Health Department is comprised of a growing number of grant-funded and contract-based projects that each support Federally Qualified Health Centers and community-based organizations in unique ways. When the department expanded and our projects diversified, we developed internal accounts receivable and payable tools and processes that supported our immediate needs. However, as we continue to grow, these have become inadequate. We are seeking an intern to evaluate our current tools and processes and support development and implementation of a new, more efficient accounts receivable and payable system within our department.
Job Summary:
The position of Population Health Accounts Receivable and Payable Intern is an internship with the Population Health Department at the Health Federation of Philadelphia. The primary responsibilities for this internship will be to assist the Director of Population Health Initiatives to improve accounts receivable and payable processes within the department.

The intern will benefit by gaining experience with accounting policies and practices in a mid-size nonprofit organization. They will have the opportunity to learn about a public health nonprofit, including learning about Federally Qualified Health Centers, community-based organizations, and the health care landscape in Philadelphia and the state of Pennsylvania as a whole. They will be encouraged to learn about the different departments and programs within the organization and to network with other HFP staff (including social workers, data analysts, other public health professionals, and finance staff). There will be the opportunity to attend any relevant trainings and meetings of interest hosted by HFP and the Population Health Department.
Experience and Skills
Candidates should be pursuing a degree in Account or Business Administration. Ideally candidate will be an advanced undergraduate or graduate student in one of these fields.
Supervision: The intern will be supervised by the Director of Population Health Initiatives with weekly standing meetings to review work plans for the week, and ensure that the intern has clear expectations and support/guidance to complete all assigned tasks.
Location: The intern will report to Health Federation of Philadelphia, 123 S. Broad Street, Suite 650, Philadelphia, PA 19109 where the intern will be reporting for the duration of the internship. Periodic meetings outside these locations may be required.
Duration of Internship: Fall 2024 semester. Flexible number of hours per week and flexible schedule available. This is an unpaid internship opportunity, with the ability to adapt to program/credit requirements.
