Senior Media Relations Specialist (Finance)
This writing-intensive media relations role enhances the image, brand and reputation of the University across multiple colleges and subject areas. Coordinates media communications and provides counsel and guidance to administrators and faculty in assigned academic disciplines. Advances the University's strategic plan through compelling and informative storytelling, media pitching and robust earned media placements in local, state and national media outlets.
1. Through Multi-College Coverage: Builds and nurtures relationships with national, statewide and local media contacts, on-campus sources and partner organizations to generate news stories and media opportunities that spotlight achievements through across the University of Houston's various colleges and units.
2. Crafts, edits and disseminates a wide range of content, to include but not limited to in-depth feature stories, comprehensive news releases and other long-form articles, that translates complex subject matter into engaging narratives for interest to both internal and external audiences.
3. Tailors' media outreach to promote unique initiatives, research findings and accomplishments of different individuals and/or academic units, that align with the University's strategic plan.
4. Collaborates with deans, administrators and faculty to stay apprised of newsworthy activities, develops well-informed press materials that highlight UH's multifaceted expertise.
5. Develops and manages content across digital platforms, ensuring consistency with UH's brand and voice.
6. Fosters and maintains positive relationships with key media outlets to broaden the University's reach.
7. Coordinates and executes media events and manages logistical aspects such as press lists and scheduling.
8. Performs other job-related duties as required.
MQ: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of directly job-related experience.
