Responsibilities:

Incumbent's role may focus on evaluating and improving plant performance in the areas of safety, quality, production output and operating costs.
Communicate effectively in individual and group situations adjusting language or terminology to the characteristics and needs of the audience.
Read and interpret Computer Aided Design drawings and blueprints.
Understand project management concepts, systems, and techniques.
Participative and influential team player in achieving desired production outcomes and organizational goals.
Ability to maintain sound judgment and stable performance under stress and/or opposition (e.g. time pressure, job ambiguity).
Communicate at high level with consultants from other disciplines (structural, electrical, etc.)
Interact with equipment vendors on design, iterative changes, file transfer, etc.
Control overall layout and/or 3D space of entire project. Maintain central origin/work point consistency through project lifespan.
Demonstrate strong commitment to safety, quality, environmental awareness, and continuous process improvement.
Qualifications:
Degree in Mechanical Technology and/or equivalent training.
Prefer two (2) or more years of experience in related job function as a mechanical designer.
Mechanical design experience in a heavy industry – preferably wood products manufacturing.
Skill and experience in:
Engineering technology (calculations of stress, deflection, and horsepower)
Machinery general arrangements
Mechanical and detail design
Drafting
Checking drawing packages and evaluating CAD platforms
Managing electronic drawing databases
Laser scanning of existing manufacturing lines
Integrating electronic control points from Total Station surveys with laser scan data
Experience in AutoCAD, Inventor or SolidWorks, Revit, and Navisworks
Travel:
Travel 20% annually:
When sizing up a project, travel consists of manufacturing site visits each month including a minimum of 3 days on-site plus travel days. Must be able to walk, kneel, climb ladders and stairs, and deal with extreme temperatures.
When installing equipment, travel consists of being on-site for 2-3 weeks consecutively (including weekends).
