An AV Level 2 Technician plays a key role in supporting the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of commercial audio-visual systems. Building on foundational AV experience, this role involves a higher level of technical responsibility, including independent problem-solving, system calibration, and support of more complex installations. In a commercial setting—such as offices, conference centers, higher education, or retail environments—the AV Level 2 Technician ensures systems are professionally installed, fully functional, and client-ready.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist with and lead portions of AV system installations, including displays, projectors, speakers, microphones, video walls, and conferencing solutions.
• Pull, terminate, and label AV and network cabling (HDMI, Cat6, audio, control, etc.) to professional standards.
• Conduct system testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning support under the guidance of senior techs or engineers.
• Interpret and work from AV system drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
• Identify and resolve on-site installation issues quickly and effectively.
• Maintain clear and accurate documentation of installations and system updates.
• Work professionally in client environments, maintaining site cleanliness and ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
Skills & Qualifications:
• 2-4 years of experience in commercial AV installation or support roles.
• Strong understanding of AV signal flow and system components.
• Comfortable using test equipment and basic hand/power tools.
• Familiarity with commercial AV systems (Crestron, Extron, Biamp, Shure, etc.).
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and scope-of-work documents.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and a proactive approach to issue resolution.
• Excellent communication, time management, and customer service skills.
• OSHA certification, CTS certification, or manufacturer-specific training is a plus.
Physical Demands
Spends more than 2/3 of time standing, kneeling/crouching/stooping, using hands and reaching. Spends approximately 1/3 of time walking and talking/hearing. Frequent lifting required of items 25-50 pounds, and occasional lifting over 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Work Environment
Work is typically performed on-site at commercial facilities. Will involve travel to job sites, physical labor, working from ladders or lifts, and coordination with contractors and other trades.
